It's one thing to have a great idea, and another thing to craft a story from that great idea. Join novelist and short story writer Erika Krouse as she discusses her methods of working through ideas to bring a story to life (sometimes with defibrillation paddles and mouth-to-mouth). Besides short prose methods (short story, essay), we'll also discuss whole-book techniques for developing novels and memoirs. For reference, we'll use Erika's story, "The Pole of Cold" (originally published in One Story, reprinted online at http://nowheremag.com/2016/03/the-pole-of-cold/). It's helpful if you read the story before attending, but not required. Come! Share your own tips and tricks, and leave with an expanded toolbox to propel you past your roadblocks and into your stories.
